The Hobby: Tales from the Tabletop

Since Brainstorm Media's inception in 1995, the company has had a forward-thinking approach to a growing indie marketplace. With an ethos of adaptability, Brainstorm continues to expand its network of partners and explore unique models of distribution. Brainstorm’s mission is to realize focused and creative distribution strategies for its content partners.

From the World Series of Board Games on the Vegas strip and dating back to ancient Mesopotamia, THE HOBBY: TALES FROM THE TABLETOP is an affectionate, character-driven portrait of the massive and diverse subculture of modern board games.

With a fascinating cast of charming subjects—including the “Roger Ebert of board games,” a rock-climbing board game philosopher, and a birdwatcher who created an unlikely smash hit—players share personal stories of competition, compulsion, creativity, and connection. THE HOBBY explores the value of leisure time and uncovers the deep meaning found in “meaningless” pursuits.

Featuring board game designers Elizabeth Hargrave, Eric M. Lang, Daryl Andrews, and John Hague, content creators Tom Vasel (Dice Tower), Candice Harris (Board Game Geek), and Mik and Starla Fitch (Our Family Plays Games), philosopher C. Thi Nguyen, Dr. Irving Finkel (British Museum), and casual gamer Dan Corbett.
